Baklava

Baklava

Baklava is a rich and sweet pastry made with layers of phyllo dough, chopped nuts, and honey syrup. This classic Mediterranean dessert is both decadent and delicious.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 package phyllo dough, thawed
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 cups finely chopped walnuts
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup honey

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F). Brush a 9x13 inch baking dish with melted butter.
  2. Layer 8 sheets of phyllo dough in the baking dish, brushing each sheet with melted butter.
  3. In a bowl, mix chopped walnuts, sugar, and cinnamon. Sprinkle a portion of this mixture over the phyllo dough.
  4. Continue layering phyllo dough and nut mixture, ending with 8 layers of phyllo dough.
  5. Cut the baklava into diamond shapes before baking.
  6. Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until golden brown.
  7. While the baklava is baking, combine water and honey in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Simmer for 10 minutes and let cool.
  8. Pour the honey syrup over the hot baklava as soon as it comes out of the oven.
  9. Allow to cool completely before serving.
