Turkish Delight, or Lokum, is a chewy and sweet confection flavored with rosewater. It’s a traditional Turkish treat that’s perfect for sharing or enjoying with a cup of tea.
INGREDIENTS
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup cornstarch
- 1/4 cup lemon juice
- 1/4 tsp cream of tartar
- 1 tsp rosewater (optional)
- Powdered sugar for dusting
INSTRUCTIONS
- In a saucepan, combine water and sugar. Bring to a boil and simmer until the sugar dissolves.
- In another bowl, mix cornstarch with a small amount of water to make a slurry. Add to the boiling sugar mixture and stir well.
- Continue to cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens and pulls away from the sides of the pan.
- Remove from heat and stir in lemon juice, cream of tartar, and rosewater if using.
- Pour mixture into a greased pan and let set at room temperature for at least 4 hours or overnight.
- Cut into small squares and dust with powdered sugar before serving.
