Turkish rice pudding, or Sütlaç, is a creamy and comforting dessert made with rice, milk, and a touch of vanilla. It’s often garnished with cinnamon for a warm, aromatic finish.
INGREDIENTS
- 1/2 cup rice
- 1 liter milk
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup water
- Ground cinnamon for garnish
INSTRUCTIONS
- Rinse the rice under cold water. In a saucepan, combine rice and water and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes, until rice is tender.
- In another saucepan, heat milk and sugar until the sugar dissolves.
- Mix cornstarch with a small amount of cold milk to make a slurry, then stir into the warm milk. Cook, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens.
- Add the cooked rice to the milk mixture and stir well. Cook for another 10 minutes, stirring frequently.
- Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
- Pour pudding into serving dishes and let cool. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours.
- Before serving, sprinkle with ground cinnamon.
